On Friday 27th January The Ridings High School hosted local schools in an EU sponsored conference entitled “Talking about Europe”. A panel of senior and eminent judges from the South Glos education authority and the European Commission and Parliament, chaired by Neil Parish MEP, judged presentations by the individual schools on issues concerning Europe as well as how the schools dealt with questions from the floor debate. The overall winning school was Brimsham Green, Yate and their prize will include a visit to the European Parliament in Strasbourg. The Ridings High school wishes to thank all those who took part in a very enlightening conference and we look forward to similar future occasions with our international partners in the future be it by the medium of video conferencing or the reality of a conference such as the one that took place today-international education in action.
The Specialist Schools and Academies Trust is delighted to confirm that they are continuing to run the DfES funded School-Determined Programme until 2008. This programme enables 2-4 classroom teachers from schools in England to visit a partner school abroad to look at an approved theme.

Welcome to our ‘Virtual International Leadership Academy’.
The International Learning programme in South Gloucestershire is expanding rapidly due to developing partnerships with several national bodies e.g. The British Council, LECT, Specialist Schools Trust, Best Practice Network and the NCSL. The central ‘driving force’ is the Teachers’ International Professional Development Programme (TIPD). Study Visits (Strand 1) have already been undertaken to Denmark, Ghana, Toronto, Phoenix, Poland, Shanghai and Denver. The International Leadership Programme has seen ten South Gloucestershire (cross-phase) headteachers visit Melbourne Australia in June 2003, one headteacher visit Montreal and four headteachers visit New Zealand. An International Leadership research and enquiry group and a Best Practice Forum have been established.
